Project Excel

Mentoring is the cornerstone of the 100 and is provided to black males in grades 6-12 through the flagship program, Project Excel. Following its motto, “What They See Is What They’ll Be,” the 100 very succinctly expresses how youth are mentored and supported to develop essential life skills, improve academic performance, and develop citizenship.  In addition, youth participating in Project Excel are afforded enrichment opportunities, academic support and tutoring, as well as FREE access to all other youth programs offered by the organization.

Bi-monthly mentoring sessions are held throughout the school year on Saturdays from 9am – Noon.  Students will be served a light breakfast and lunch.  Transportation is not provided.

Curriculum

The 100 provides a curriculum structured around the following core areas:

  • Self-Management
  • Leadership Skills
  • Assertion Skills
  • Personal Relations
  • Career Readiness
  • Youth Excursions

Application Process

Application Period: We strongly encourage parents/guardians to apply during June- July of each calendar year (unless we meet registration capacity prior to registration deadline.) Consideration may be given to parents/guardians who apply during the school year.

Eligibility: Minority males in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in Project Excel.  Applications are accepted year-round and can be downloaded below.  Upon submission and review of a completed application, parents/guardians will be contacted to schedule an interview.  Notification of acceptance status will be provided afterwards.  There are no associated program fees to participate in Project Excel.

I felt my son needed to physically see how a strong black male should carry himself.  He sees that every time he interacts with the 100 Black Men.
